TAMPING UNITTo tamp the sleeper ballast, the tamping tools penetrate into the ballast and perform aclosing movement (tightening). To this tightening movement a vibration is superimposed (sinusoidal oscillation). COLMAR, on a specific request, can make tamping units that work both with the principleof asynchronous and synchronous principle. The hammers vibration is obtained through an hydraulic vibration cylinder and both frequency and amplitude, of the vibration can be varied. The frequency variation and the vibration amplitude can be performed both manually or automatically by a computer which analyzes the closing pressure and penetration speed of the hammers into the ballast.
