TAMPING UNIT

To tamp the sleeper ballast, the tamping tools penetrate into the ballast and perform aclosing movement (tightening). To this tightening movement a vibration is superimposed (sinusoidal oscillation). COLMAR, on a specific request, can make tamping units that work both with the principleof asynchronous and synchronous principle. The hammers vibration is obtained through an hydraulic vibration cylinder and both frequency and amplitude, of the vibration can be varied. The frequency variation and the vibration amplitude can be performed both manually or automatically by a computer which analyzes the closing pressure and penetration speed of the hammers into the ballast. For each tamped sleeper, the electronic transducers record the frequency and amplitude of vibration, and the closing force.

ADVANTAGES:
When the hammers are not in contact with the ballast, they don’t vibrate, therefore there is neither energy consumption, nor noise, nor wearing. The tamping system with hydraulic vibration involves less maintenance costs in respect to traditional systems (mechanic). The hydraulic vibration group can be easily disassembled, the spare parts pieces are easy to find and are very cheap. The maintenance personnel does not need to be highly specialized.
